MonoStorms

StormCats, the Scottish based boat builders, to date have designed and built Commercial Fishing, Charter Angling and Dive Charter Catamarans all to Lloyds Special Service Craft Rules and now launches the newest edition to their ever growing portfolio … the luxury 9.5m Catamaran …..Feolin of Ardmore nicknamed ‘SuperCat’. Purpose built to order and conforming to the latest RCD, to Category C or B, she is fitted with 2 x 250hp Evinrude E - Tec petrol outboards and comes complete in the twin hulls with fully fitted kitchen, Queen size bed, sit down shower with bathroom facilities, office space and single bed……….lets take a tour…….

Climb aboard…. the main deck, wheelhouse, both hulls and flybridge are decked in teak – the main deck with seating, cleverly disguising the cool boxes, for four leaving ample  space to relax. At either side there are teak steps up to the whale back edged in 316 stainless steel hand rails this allows easy and safe access to the bow which has been custom fitted for the 2 stainless steel anchors, winches and bow rollers.

Back on deck and through to the wheelhouse there is seating and a dining table for four, a chart table, storage for the safety equipment and a bespoke 3- draw unit for personal items. Unlike many boats, the interiors are moulded GRP which not only offers a far superior style but is easily maintained, easy to clean and with a long lasting finish.

The console is stunning, housing a state of the art electronics package comprising a full colour 12” Navman 8120, Plotter, Radar, Sounder , VHF and CD Stereo system with MP3 capabilities. More importantly the console is built around the helmsman for cockpit style, comfort, dynamics and ease of use.

The galley has a fully fitted kitchen complete with fridge, microwave, sink, cooker, and all the accessories expected for such a high standard craft. The bow end is equipped to be used as an office with facilities for a laptop yet doubles up as a single bed when required.

Feolin of Ardmore has generous accommodation with curved steps up to a queen size bed. At the stern there is a sit down shower, elegantly screened off, toilet and sink.

Throughout the interior is lined with a mottle shell foam backed material with the addition of bolster cushions in the bedroom and ensuite. To compliment the deck all the furniture and accessories are finished in teak to the highest standard.

Back out and onto the main deck and up the custom built 316 stainless steel ladder with teak steps leading to flybridge. Fitted with a stainless steel ‘A’ frame for navigation lights, remote control search light, GPS, radar and 2 x VHF ariels, the flybridge has seating for three in addition to the helmsman who has the luxury of a pedestal seat with back bolster facilities. The flybridge is fitted again with a purpose built console replicating the controls below in the wheelhouse. All controls to the engines enjoy the most modern flyby wire technology expected from such a high performance vessel.

In the water she will cruise at 24 knots with a top speed in excess of 30 knots.

StormCats 9.5m ‘SuperCat’ allows your dream- your layout- your boat to become reality giving you the highest quality craftsmanship and equipment combined with total luxury.

StormCats continue to be forerunners in the design of sturdy, very capable, dynamic custom built boats with the launch of StormBreaker earlier in the year. StormBreaker is a hydrodynamic multipurpose cathedral hull complete with an innovative layout allowing for a 360 degree gun whale space making it an ideal boat not only for angling, diving and water sports but also as a family boat. She can carry up to a tonne in weight, including eight people, whilst enjoying a sprint speed of up to 50knots. StormBreaker is built to survive in the tough West Coast environment in which she is tested to the max.

03/10/2007 22:33 - Islay Tope Fishing Festival
Posted by adminmore from same (Tope Fishing)
Tope FishingStormCats Islay Tope Fishing Festival

The event gets bigger and better. This year the StormCats Islay Tope Fishing Festival, kicked off to the 10am air horn when 26 boats all with eager sea anglers braved the rather lumpy seas on Saturday 25th in pursuit of The Tope. Undeterred by the ones that munched their way through the traces or just famously ‘got away’  fishing continued in earnest with the first Tope being caught by Peter Bartlett and weighing an incredible 66lb. Rising to the challenge, soon afterwards, was Kevin Wiggins landing a 51lb Tope! The weather changed for the better, with boats even waiting on the starting line on The Sunday. Four more Tope were caught with the third joint heaviest being caught by Annie Gredley – it was longer than she is tall and Jonathan McArthur who also won the U16 prize. Brain MacCaulay deserves the patience is a virtue prize – having stayed in the same spot all day he finally landed a 50lb Tope. Perseverance paid off for the Chasemore team of ‘Bad Habits’ who landed a very fine 26lb Tope.

Annie Gredley scooped the board with not only joint third prize in the main category but also winning biggest Tope caught by a female, and also the Biggest Bag of the weekend.
The largest fish, other than a Tope, was caught by Andrew Bauld Jnr. and the prize for the Tope that had travelled the furthest before being caught was won by the patient Brain MacCaulay! There was a lot of fun in the awarding of the novelty prizes from the prettiest fish to the ‘Ard est Beggar’ to catch. The festival would not have been possible without the generosity Team StormCats and that too of St James’s Place Partnership for the substantial monetary donation for prizes, and to all of the distilleries, Ian Laurie, John Campbell, Jane Mitchell, Minty, Jean the Fish, Islay Woollen Mill, East-Wood Glass Design, Islay Ales, Boat Fishing Monthly Magazine and Bowmore Harbour Association.
Festivities continued into the evening with a prize giving ceremony together with a BBQ supplied by Ideas, Bar by the Feis Committee and PA by Ringo.

All proceeds from the event will be split between the RNLI and Islay and Jura Sick Children’s fund.
